Club Awards
The Roaring 20's Car Club gives out both individual and family service awards each year.
The individual awards consist of the William Ryan Memorial Service Award, now called the Bruce E. Winter Memorial Service Award, and the Mildred Ashborn Memorial Service Award.
The Willian Ryan Award Memorial Service Award was established in 1974 to honor the memory of William Ryan, a club member and co-chairman for the Waterbury Tercentennial Celebration. This celebration featured an antique car parade, organized by William. William died while the parade was in route. This award is given to a Roaring 20's male member who has excelled over and above the call of duty in service to the club. No member may receive this award twice. The members who have received this award are:

The William Ryan Award Memorial Service Award was officially changed to the Bruce E. Winter Memorial Service Award in 2002.
Bruce became a member of the club in 1979, but he was giving a hand with things long before he became an official member. Bruce served as president for a total of 9 years (1981-1983, 1988-1989, 1992-1994, and 2001). He was very involved in the club even in the beginning, being awarded the William Ryan Award Memorial Service Award in 1983. His family received an award in 1993. Even when Bruce was not president, he still attended the Board meetings, judging seminars, meetings at the school, and acted as a consultant to the new Presidents.
Bruce played a huge part in our annual Southbury car show, from getting the scissors truck to organizing port-a-lets. He was usually the first one to get there and the last one to leave, but only after he made sure no one else needed help. This was the norm at any function he attended.
Bruce very rarely spoke of himself or his accomplishments but he went out of his way to acknowledge others. He never missed an opportunity to thank someone for his or her hard work, or an act of kindness.
He would take charge if the situation called for it, without anyone asking. Bruce was a fixture, someone who we all depended on to be there. You knew exactly where you stood, his likes and dislikes, and you accepted this even if you didn't agree with it.
In today's world the words selflessness, integrity, dedication, commitment, and honesty are thrown around freely, but in Bruce Winter's case they fit perfectly. He became an exceptionally good friend to everyone. When he said something, you could take it to the bank. After family, he loved our club.
Although small in stature, he left awfully large shoes to fill. To those of us who were honored to be his friend, we will miss him dearly.
This award is given to a Roaring 20's male member who has excelled over and above the call of duty in service to the club. No member may receive this award twice. The members who have received this award are:
| Michael Shidlovsky | 2002 | Doug Beals | 2005 | |
| Robert D'Amico | 2003 | Manny Luzio | 2006 | |
| Stan Sepiol Sr. | 2004 | Clem Gura | 2007 |
The Mildred Ashborn Memorial Service Award was established in 1991 to honor the memory of "Millie" Ashborn. Millie provided hand made afghans for many years, to be used as second prize each September at our raffle. This award is given to a Roaring 20's female member who has excelled over and above the call of duty in service to the club. No member may receive this award twice.
